eduroam

free WiFi at universities and colleges worldwide

eduroam lets you get online at hundreds of universities, colleges and research institutions across the UK and in 100+ countries, using a single set of credentials from WTC. No guest passwords, no signing in at reception — your device connects automatically once set up. WTC is a member of eduroam(UK), operated by Jisc.

Please read this first — WTC does not provide eduroam WiFi

We teach through hubs, which are almost all partner venues we do not own. We do not broadcast eduroam at WTC sites, so do not expect to find it at your hub. What eduroam gives you is instant WiFi when you walk into a participating university, library, conference, partner institution, or the September residential at the University of Nottingham.

Your eduroam credentials are NOT your WTC login

**This is the single most important thing on this page.**

Your eduroam credentials are separate from your WTC Google account. They were emailed to you: the username looks like yourname@wtctheology.org.uk, with a 14-character password. Your normal WTC email password will not work, and you must never type it into an eduroam prompt.

This is deliberate. eduroam hands your password to the network you are visiting, so keeping it separate means that even in the worst case nobody reaches your email, Drive, or student records. Lost your credentials? Email eduroam@wtctheology.org.uk — do not guess, and do not use your Google password.

Setup Instructions

You should have received an email in your WTC email account entitled ‘Your WTC Eduroam Login’. Within this email you will find a username and password needed to log in to eduroam.

On any device, open your wifi settings and select ‘eduroam’. You should now be asked to provide your username and password, this is where you need to put your WTC eduroam credentials.

If you have any issues, please open the relevant section below for your specific device.

On your iPhone, you may either be able to log in instantly, or need to install a profile. To try logging in instantly, click Eduroam and enter your password credentials that were emailed to you (remember, the password is not the same as your regular WTC password). It may then ask you to trust and/or install A eduroam certificate, if it does, click “Trust” or “install” as appropriate.

If this doesn’t work, follow the below steps.

  1. On your iphone, navigate to cat.eduroam.org, select “UK” and search for “Westminster Theological Centre” (or use this direct link https://cat.eduroam.org/?idp=9954&profile=16622
  2. Click “download” for your apple device. The download will start.
  3. You will be asked “cat.eduroam.org is trying to download a configuration profile. Do you want to allow this?” Click “Allow.”
  4. A note will appear that says “Profile Downloaded – Review the profile in the Settings app if you want to install it.” Click “Close.”
  5. Go to “Settings.” You should see “Profile Downloaded” appear (if not, you can search for Profile”). Click it, and it will take you to a page that says “Install Profile.”
  6. Ont his page, you’ll see a certificate that starts
    “eduroam
    Westminster Theological Centre”
Click “install” in the top right corner.
  7. Enter you’re passcode to your phone to continue
  8. A message from Westminster Theological Centre will appear saying “important Notice: your username MUST end exactly with ‘…@wtctheology.org.uk’! Click Next in the top right corner.
  9. A screen saying “Unmanaged Root Certificate” will appear. Feel free to read this, then click “Install”
  10. A new pop up will appear, “Install profile – installing this profile will change settings on your iPhone.” These settings will only relate to logging onto eduroam and will not effect anything else on your phone.  Click “Install”
  11. Enter your Eduroam username. This will be your wtc email.
  12. Enter your password for Eduroam (note, this is the one that was emailed to you, not your regular email password).
  13. Finally, the certificate screen will appear one more time. Click the tick button and Eduroam is now installed.

You may get a screen which asks for more information if your phone requires it. Enter these exactly. If a field is not offered, leave it blank.

and click the Download installer for Apple device. This will download the profile.

  4. Click “Install”. You will be asked if you want to continue. Hit “continue.”
  5. It will then ask you for your Eduroam credentials, found in the email “Your WTC Eduroam login.” Note the password is not the same as your WTC email. Enter the info and click, “install.”

Trouble connecting on Windows?

1. On the laptop, go to https://cat.eduroam.org/?idp=9954&profile=16622

2. Click Download installer (it detects Windows), then run the file and click through it — this installs the security certificate for you.

3. When prompted, enter the eduroam username and password emailed to you — not your usual WTC email/Moodle password.

4. Pick eduroam from the Wi-Fi list. You should be online.

Already tried setting it up by hand? Forget the old network first — Wi-Fi settings → eduroam → Forget — then run the installer. The broken manual settings block it otherwise.

Never tick “don’t validate the certificate” or “connect anyway” — the installer means you’ll never need to.

Still stuck? Email eduroam@wtctheology.org.uk, and a photo of your screen helps.
